Île/Mer/Froid (whose name can be translated as Island/Sea/Cold) is the collaborative artistic practice that Boris Geoffroy (born 1987, lives in Marseille, works in Salmiech, Aveyron) and Hugo Lemaire (born 1988, lives in Paris, works in Salmiech, Aveyron) have been engaged in since 2014, centered on a collective approach and the ecology of work.

Since 2021, the duo has been dedicated to working with ceramics, exploring the material’s expressive possibilities and the political implications of an artistic practice rooted in a millennia-old artisanal tradition.

Their works—large stoneware forms shaped in turn and wood-fired at high temperatures, sometimes glazed with plant ash, wild earth, and metal oxides—seek a subtle boundery somewhere between pottery, tree, and animal construction. They are new bodies, spontaneous constructions that capture the energy of shared experimentation, the environment and its resources, and that celebrate the wild, encounters, and the experience of the landscape.
